There’s finally a reason – besides their conspicuous blue field – to watch Boise State on Saturdays. Broncos’ running back Ashton Jeanty has his eyes on the Heisman Trophy, and, in no time, he’ll be running wild in the NFL. Through five games, Jeanty has 1,031 rushing yards and 16 rushing touchdowns. He averages over 202 rushing yards per game, which leads the country by more than 50 yards!
Ashton Jeanty: 1,031
Kaleb Johnson (Iowa): 771
Omarion Hampton (North Carolina): 764
Ashton Jeanty (after contact): 755
You read that right. Jeanty is college football’s fourth-leading rusher if you only consider his yards after contact.
Last week, Jeanty ran for 186 yards and three touchdowns and didn’t play a snap in the second half.
Jeanty leads college football with 16 rushing touchdowns as well. Betting odds for Jeanty are otherworldly, with sports books setting his touchdown line at O/U 2.5 touchdowns and his rushing yards at 185.5 for the game, which is unheard of. Most quarterbacks in college football do not have a 2.5 touchdown line, and some quarterbacks’ passing yards lines do not reach 185.5!
Every week, Jeanty outperforms entire offenses by himself, producing three to four touchdowns and 200+ yards of total offense per game. Whether he is home on Boise State’s “Smurf Turf” or on the road in a hostile environment, Jeanty dominates the ground game and is rightfully the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy.
Boise State faces the University of Hawai’i tonight on the main island of O’ahu. The game kicks off at 11 pm EST, so most of the country will be asleep before Jeanty even records a yard. If you are awake for the latest kickoff in college football, keep your eyes on #2 in blue and orange because if you blink, he’ll be celebrating in the endzone.
Last week, the Rainbows allowed 109 yards and two touchdowns to San Diego State running back Marquez Cooper. The Aztecs are 2-3 with a lousy rushing attack, so what do you expect Jeanty to do against Hawaii’s defense? Jeanty might go for 400 yards and six touchdowns if they leave him in for the entire game. He is must-see TV and is well on pace to finish the season with 2,000+ rushing yards.
Jeanty is so confident that he will surpass 2k that he made a bet with his offensive line to cut off his hair if he falls short of the mark. However, if Jeanty wins the bet, one of his linemen will get a numbered tattoo of Jeanty’s exact rushing yards total.
As we approach the halfway point in college football, this season has already featured several breakout athletes – from Colorado’s two-way sensation Travis Hunter to Alabama’s 17-year-old wideout Ryan Williams – but Ashton Jeanty might be the best of them all. He’s 5’9”, 215 lbs, and nobody in the country can tackle him.
